Idaho National Currency Bank Note Information
Idaho had 86 national currency issuing charters in 56 towns. There are 1120 Idaho national bank notes known, ranking it the 6th scarcest state just edging out Nevada at #7. Idaho National Currency Bank Note Issuing Banks

• First National Bank of American Falls, Idaho

  In business for 16 years between 1907 and 1923.
  It issued only Series 1902 large sized bank notes in red and blue seals.
  The original bank is under a reservoir with the rest of the old townsite. The entire city was moved in 1925.
  Bank notes from this charter are not uncommon but still nice to see.
  

• First National Bank of Ashton, Idaho

  Operating from 1912 to 1928 this bank only issued blue seals.
  Ashton is a tiny little town, tucked up close to Yellowstone and Montana.
  

• First National Bank of Blackfoot, Idaho

  From 1904 through the beginning of 1934 this bank printed red seals, blue seals and small sized brown seals.
  This is not an easy bank in large sized. There are no known red seals but if one were to surface it would be a great note.
  This bank has one of the best titles in Idaho. Named after the fierce indian tribe.
  

• First National Bank of Boise City, Idaho

  This was the first chartered bank in Idaho, officially chartered in 1867.
  This is the only bank in Idaho to have preceeded the national banking era. They issued their own (obsolete) notes.
  This is also the only bank in Idaho that issued $1.00 and $2.00 bills.
  (only a single $2.00 is known and it was probably saved because it had serial #2)
  Notes from this bank are pretty common but can be pretty valuable if the note is a territorial note.
  

• Boise City National Bank, Boise City Idaho

  Organized in 1886 and lasting through to 1932 this is one of Idaho most prolific banks.
  They issued brownbacks, red and blue seals and small sized brown seals.
  This bank issued territorial notes which are very desirable.
  

• Idaho National Bank of Boise, Idaho

  From 1906 to 1921 this bank issued red and blue seal large notes.
  I love the title layout on these notes because the Idaho is prominent.
  A red seal on this bank would be a wonderful note to find.
  

• First National Bank of Bonners Ferry, Idaho

  Starting in 1915 this bank lasted through to 1935 when it was liquidated.
  They issued blue seals in dateback and plainback varieties.
  This note is kind of tough in large size but available in small size.
  

• First National Bank of Buhl, Idaho

  This bank lasted eight years between 1917 and 1925.
  Having printed nearly 7500 sheets it would seem to be a more common bank but it's not.
  This note is very hard to find and I would like to find one. :-)
  

• First National Bank of Burley, Idaho

  This bank operated for eight years between 1913 and 1921.
  The bank issued over 7500 sheets but notes are still hard to find.
  This bank issued only blue seals in dateback and plainback varieties.
  

• First National Bank of Caldwell, Idaho

  From 1892 to liquidation in 1935 this bank was lasted 43 years.
  It issued 1882 brownbacks, 1902 blue seals and 1929 small sized notes.
  While the bank did issue 1882 series notes, none are known.
  

• Western National Bank of Caldwell, Idaho

  Chartered in the red seal era in 1906 this bank lasted till 1924.
  The bank issued red seals and blue seals.
  There are two red seals known on the bank, both serial #1 notes likely saved by the bank officers.
  

• American National Bank of Caldwell, Idaho

  In business only four years from 1909 to 1913.
  This is a blue seal only bank and a tough one at that. There are two known.
  With about 5000 sheets issued this bank should be more common.
  

• First National Bank of Challis, Idaho

  This bank operated from 1909 to 1917 but since the town was so tiny and it's currency needs limited,
  They only issued a little over 800 sheets. Because of that, notes on this bank are very scarce.
  I would love to have one since my family has roots there.
  In Challis, my great-grandfather Grover Crocker shot at a rat in his barn one day. The shot hit some blasting
  caps (he was a miner) and blew the barn up.
  

• First National Bank of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho

  This bank started up in 1903 and lasted until 1915 when it was acquired by the Exchange National Bank.
  They issued red seals and blu seals. Sadly there are no notes with this title known.
  

• Exchange National Bank of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho

  Started in 1904 this bank lasted until 1929 and issued red seals, blue seals and small sized brown seals
  In 1915 they assumed the circulation of the FNB in Coeur D'Alene which is probably why those notes are so scarce.
  

• First National Bank of Cottonwood, Idaho

  From 1905 to 1935 this bank churned out red seals, blue seals and small sized notes.
  The bank isn't tremendously rare but a red seal on this bank is a cool note and one I would love to own!
  

• First National Bank of Driggs, Idaho

  In business from 1912 to 1929, the bank issued blue seals and small sized brown seals.
  The cashier Carlos Driggs saved the #1 and #2 note in the family where the #1 still remains.
  I am told Mr. Driggs advised the family not to ever sell the #1 note. I sure wish they would. :-)
  

• First National Bank of Dubois, Idaho

  This tough bank was in business from 1919 to 1927 when it went in to bankruptcy.
  The bank only issued blue seals and not a large amount of those.
  There is only one note on known on the bank and it's a peach.
  

• First National Bank of Emmett, Idaho

  This is another tough bank that operated from 1902 to 1930.
  Even though they made it to the small sized issuing period no small notes were issued.
  They issued red seals and blue seals only. Happily I own one of the three notes known on the bank.
  

• First National Bank of Fairfield, Idaho

  This is an interesting bank that started off as the First National Bank of Soldier, Idaho.
  The FNB of Soldier operated until the OSL railroad bypassed the town and built a depot in Fairfield two miles down the road.
  The FNB of Soldier was renamed to the FNB of Fairfield. Alltogether the bank lasted from 1912 to 1920.
  The small bank issued only large blue seals one of which is known today with the Soldier title.
  A note on this bank would be a fantastic discovery and I would love to see it happen
  

• First National Bank of Firth, Idaho

  A tiny bank which operated from 1918 to 1925 when it's circulation was assumed by the FNB of Blackfoot.
  This bank issued only 1902 blue seal plainbacks and less than 3000 sheets.
  This is a tough bank with only one known at present.
  

• First National Bank of Genesee, Idaho

  This bank lasted a mere 13 months between 1892 and 1893.
  Due to the banks short life and the small communities modest currency needs only 236 sheets were printed.
  The bank is currently unknown but if a note were to show up it would be pretty exciting.
  

• First National Bank of Hagerman, Idaho

  From 1912 to 1935 this towns longevity belies it's rarity.
  With an issued of less than 2000 sheets notes are uncommon at best.
  I would really love a note from here.
  I have good memories of driving through Hagerman with my grandfather who was fascinated by the geography of the area.
  The bank still stands in the community with the vault intact. It's now a museum.
  

• First National Bank of Hailey, Idaho

  From 1888 to 1908 this bank issued territorial and state brownback $5.00 notes.
  This is an exceptionally tough bank, one that I would really like to own.
  

• Hailey National Bank of Hailey, Idaho

  Chartered in 1908 and lasting until 1935.
  This bank issued large blue seals and small brownseals.
  The president of this bank was a prominent citizen, the towns Doctor J. C. Fox
  J.C. Fox brought my mother and uncle into the world, with my grandmothers help. :-)
  

• Blaine County National Bank of Hailey, Idaho

  Chartered in 1917 and lasted only until 1925.
  This bank issued only large blue seals but a fair amount of them.
  I have a note on this town but it's been repaired and has sen better days.
  

• First National Bank of Idaho Falls, Idaho

  An oddity, this bank lasted about 5 months during 1901.
  The bank was issued 125 sheets of 1882 brownbacks but they were never issued it seems.
  To me this is tragic because it means there is no chance to have a brownback on my hometown.
  

• First National Bank of Kellogg, Idaho

  This bank lasted for 26 years between 1909 and 1935.
  The bank issued large blue seals and small sized brownseals.
  This is a tough note to find and I would love to buy a blue seal on this bank.
  

• First National Bank of Kendrick, Idaho

  For seven years between 1892 and 1899 this bank issued only $50 and $100 1882 brownbacks.
  A note on this bank would be a great rarity. There are only 20 brownbacks on state and none are $50 or $100's
  There is a rumor of a note on this bank in the Pacific Northwest but it hasn't been seen since the initial report.
  If you know of this note I would certainly like to hear from you!
  

• First National Bank of Ketchum, Idaho

  In business for six years between 1884 and 1890 all notes on this bank are territorial.
  There is only one note known on the bank and it's sitting in the ANA museum, locked up forever.
  This is a dream note for any collector of Idaho nationals.
  

• First National Bank of Lewiston, Idaho

  This long lived bank lasted from 1883 to 1935.
  The bank issued territorials and state notes, only one of the former is known however.
  This bank did issue red seal $50's and $100's, none of which are known.
  

• Lewiston National Bank, Lewiston Idaho

  Another long running bank and prolific issuer, this bank ran from 1883 to 1933.
  This bank issued brownbacks, red seals, blue seals and small brown seals.
  Lewiston was the territorial capital of Idaho and was a bustling city.
  

• Idaho National Bank of Lewiston, Idaho

  From 1900 to 1904 this bank issued large brown seal notes.
  This is the toughest Lewiston bank to find a note from.
  

• First National Bank of Meridian, Idaho

  For twelve years between 1912 and 1924 this bank issued blue seal notes.
  This is a tough bank to find, happily I have the finest known on the bank.
  I always associate Meridian with the Meridian onion... a watertower.
  

• First National Bank of Montpelier, Idaho

  Organized in 1904 and lasting until 1925.
  The bank issued red seals and blue seals.
  There are very few notes known on this bank, one is a red seal.
  I would love to buy a red seal on this charter. If you know of one, please contact me.
  

• First National Bank of Moscow, Idaho

  Starting in 1885 during the territorial era this bank lasted until 1935. A nice run.
  No territorials are known and precious few blue seals. Small notes are plentiful.
  

• Moscow National Bank of Moscow, Idaho

  This bank just missed the territorial era having been chartered in 1891 and lasting until 1897.
  They issued only 1882 $5.00 brown backs, none of which are known to exist.
  

• First National Bank of Mountainhome, Idaho

  Chartered in 1902 and lasting until 1928 this bank had a good run for such a small town.
  The bank issued red seals and blue seals.
  I would love to buy a note from this bank, especially a red seal.
  Mountainhome is now most famous for the Air Force base located there.
  It also serves notice that Boise is within an hour drive as you come across the state from the East.
  

• First National Bank of Mullan, Idaho

  This tiny town was lucky to have a bank that lasted from 1907 to 1933, a nice result.
  The bank issued red seals and blue seals and small brown seals.
  In large sized this bank is tough to find!
  

• First National Bank of Newdale, Idaho

  A little town close to the border of Montana.
  The bank was started late in the national era in 1917 and lasted only six years to 1923.
  With only one note known on the bank it's a good find if a new one is located.
  

• First National Bank of Nez Perce, Idaho

  Nez Perce is one of the great Indian titles on Idaho.
  Chartered in 1903 and lasting only three years until 1906, the bank issued only red seals.
  There are no notes known to the census but I am told there is one out there.
  

• Payette National Bank of Payette, Idaho

  In business for sixteen years between 1906 and 1922.
  This bank issued red seals and blue seals.
  This bank is not hard to come by unless you want a red seal, none of which are known.
  

• First National Bank of Pocatello, Idaho

  A long lived bank that lasted from 1889 to 1928.
  This bank issued territorial and state brownbacks including $50 and $100 denominations.
  A $50 or $100 brownback on this bank would be a blockbuster note for Idaho collectors.
  

• Idaho National Bank of Pocatello, Idaho

  Lasted less than three years between 1892 and 1895.
  The bank only issued $5.00 brownbacks, none of which are known to exist.
  

• Bannock National Bank of Pocatello, Idaho

  Another great Indian title on this bank which operated between 1902 and 1921.
  This bank issued red seals and blue seals only one of which survives today.
  

• Jefferson County National Bank of Rigby, Idaho

  Started late and lasting only six years between 1919 and 1925, this bank issued only blue seals.
  With less than 1500 sheets printed this note is tough to find.
  

• First National Bank of Ririe, Idaho

  In operation from 1916 to 1924 the bank only issued blue seals and not many of those.
  If you ever find yourself in this part of the country there is a nice muni golf course in Ririe.
  

• First National Bank of Rupert, Idaho

  Chartered in 1913 this bank lasted ten years until 1923 when they went under.
  The bank only issued blue seals which are tough to find.
  

• Rupert National of Rupert, Idaho

  Opened for business in 1914 and made it to 1925 before succumbing.
  This is another tough bank to find. Rupert is a good note...
  

• Bonner County National Bank of Sandpoint, Idaho

  This bank opened in 1908 and lasted through to 1935.
  This bank is not uncommon in small sized but it's unknown in large.
  I'd love to see a blue seal on this bank
  

• First National Bank of Shelley, Idaho

  In operation for 6 years between 1919 and 1925.
  The bank only issued blue seals and very few remain.
  This town is known primarily for it's potato festival.
  

• First National Bank of Shoshone, Idaho

  Another great Indian title! This bank operated from 1903 until 1928.
  The bank issued red seals and blue seals. I would love a red seal from here.
  When my grandfather was a teenager he'd hitch into Shoshone from Hailey to go to the dentist.
  It used to be a big Sheep depot because of the railroad.
  Today the main street doesn't look too much different than it did 70 years ago.
  

• First National Bank of Soldier, Idaho

  This bank only lasted a few years before the entire town of Soldier packed up and moved two miles down
  the road to Fairfield because that is where the railroad chose to use as a depot.
  This bank has one of the greatest bank names possible.
  Sadly the notes are very rare with only one known. If you have seen a note or own one from bank please contact me!
  

• First National Bank of Twin Falls, Idaho

  Chartered in 1905 and lasting until 1931 this bank had a good run. Not surprising as the town was relatively large.
  The bank issued red seals and blue seals.
  The notes from this bank aren't common but they can be had if one is patient.
  

• Twin Falls National Bank of Twin Falls, Idaho

  Starting late in 1918 this bank made it until 1931 before going out.
  The bank issued only blue seals and small brown seal notes.
  

• Wallace National Bank of Wallace, Idaho

  From 1908 until 1916 this bank issued blue seals only and not a great deal of those.
  This bank is currently unknown. If you know of a note please let me know too!
  

• First National Bank of Wendell, Idaho

  This bank sprang into being in 1909 and operated for twelve years until 1922 when it gave it up.
  The bank only issued 1902 blue seals.
  Notes on this bank are hard to come by but it seems like they should be more common from the issuance.
